What is IGTV and How Do I Use It?

IGTV - Instagram – How to Use IGTV - What is IGTV- Instagram for Business – How to Use Instagram – Social Media

Not one to let us get bored, Instagram made a major announcement yesterday. It's arguably their boldest move yet and I’m HERE FOR IT. Here’s everything you need to know about IGTV.

  • On June 20th, Instagram announced the launch of a standalone app for longer vertical videos (anywhere from 15 seconds up to 60 minutes long!) called IGTV.

  • People continue to watch less TV and more digital video.
  • By 2021, mobile video will account for 78% of total mobile data traffic.
  • Younger audiences are spending more time with amateur content creators and less time with professionals.

  • Anyone can be a creator on IGTV and upload videos in the app or on the web.
  • Several key influencers (Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, and Kevin Hart) and YouTubers (Lele Pons, King Bach, Ninja) are early partners and got a headstart on creating videos for their IGTV channels.
  • Now that the app has launched, it's fair game for all of us!

  • Videos uploaded to IGTV are accessible from a button inside the Instagram home screen, as well as a standalone app.
  • If you want to scope IGTV, but don't want to download a separate app, you can view IGTV videos in the most recent version of Instagram. Keep in mind that this update may take some time to roll out to everyone.

  • IGTV is rolling out over the last few weeks of June 2018.
  • As with all updates, this will happen at different times for different people, so stay tuned.

  • Start by downloading the App – simply called IGTV in the App Store.
  • It may take a while for you to gain this feature, try not to freak out!
  • Start making vids! Film your content on your phone or through the app and upload to IGTV.
  • These are meant to be vertical, so don't stress trying to flip your phone.
  • Try to be mindful about the usage of what could easily be your new app addiction.

I, for one, am so nerdily excited to watch this pan out. We’ve all been in love with Instagram Stories for a while, but this longer, permanent video allows for deeper storytelling and stronger connections.
