Over the past 24 hours, I’ve heard a number of people losing their damn minds about how “Instagram is going back to a chronological feed. They did, however, make an announcement yesterday about 2 changes that they’ll be rolling out in the near future in direct response to the overwhelming heavy sighs of the Internet in response to their more recent algorithm updates. I'm taking all the confusion and gossip and breaking it down for you.
Reading through Instagram’s Insights can be a really confusing place, even for the most well-seasoned Instagram pro. Although they include a “What does this mean?” section, a quick read through of their terminology descriptions will make you feel like you’re taking crazy pills. Insights are an incredibly powerful tool in shaping a smart Instagram strategy, however, so it’d be a damn shame to let them go to waste.
Every time there’s an Instagram evolution, there are a million new articles published with every Tom, Joe, and Harry’s take on what you MUST do next. In my last post, I mentioned a great way to lose your mind quickly: keep close track of the number of followers you have on your Instagram account. Within 10 minutes, it will scoot up 2 or 3 and then dip down 4 or 5. In the words of the wise Backstreet Boys, “quit playin’ games with my heart.” Here are my top reason that you may be losing Instagram followers (and why it’s actually a good thing).
Okay, this is an awkward one. I love to keep the vibe super positive on here, but there’s an epidemic happening on social media right now. Good people who think they’re doing the right thing are polarizing their audience and giving a bad name to fellow digital marketers. And the worst part? Most of them have no idea they’re doing anything wrong. This is my PSA; and I’m only going to say it once. Here's my list of the most common social media marketing faux pas.
Boy oh boy have things ever changed from today to a year or so at this time on Instagram. At over 800 million active users, they’ve had to make changes to account for all of the new growth and activity. Overall it’s just a more saturated platform, so there are more posts fighting for space in the coveted feed. On one hand, there are over 500 million active users every day and 80% of them follow brands and businesses. On the other hand, only 6% of users are actually seeing our posts. The main takeaway? What used to work on Instagram isn’t working anymore, so it’s time to adjust your strategy.

Hashtags can be a really incredible tool for getting new eyes on your account when used strategically. Start here.
Instagram doesn't give you a ton of words only 30 characters in the tagline and 150 characters in your description, as well as one precious, precious clickable link to tell people exactly who you are, who you’re for, and what you’re all about. So, you got to make them count. Here are my 5 steps to getting the PERFECT Instagram bio.
Shadowban has quickly become the boogeyman being buzzed about amongst social media influencers and entrepreneurs – we don’t know exactly what it looks like, we don’t know where it’s lurking, and we assume it’s coming for us around the next corner. If anything, it’s weeding out spam accounts to make our user experience better. We can’t hate on that, right?
