How to Overcome Content Overwhelm on Social Media

How to Overcome Content Overwhelm on Social Media | Blogging, Instagram, and FacebookTips

Tell me – what does your content strategy look like? What are you creating on a consistent basis for your business, brand, or blog? Let me guess.. a weekly YouTube video and blog post? Maybe multiple Facebook and Instagram posts too? And perhaps you're going live in a Facebook group? Oh, and are you emailing your list? It can get really overwhelming, right? It can start to feel like you're on that content treadmill where you're just churning and churning. It can feel never-ending…  and it can take up all of your time and energy super quick. More importantly, it feels like garbage – and it doesn’t have to. Grab your coffee (or wine, I’m not here to judge) and let’s chat about how to overcome content overwhelm.

Let’s start with a personal story…

A few months ago, I popped out my first baby (a beautiful little girl). Postpartum, I started to become really overwhelmed with the amount of things that I was creating for my business. To give you an idea of my content treadmill… this was my schedule:

  • Weekly YouTube video

  • Weekly email to list

  • Weekly blog post

  • Weekly FB Live on Fan Page

  • Weekly FB Live in FB Group

  • Daily Instagram posts

  • Weekly Instagram Lives

  • Weekly Facebook posts

Did you just get super overwhelmed just from hearing all those things listed off? Yeah, me too… and that's also how it felt. So, I decided to look at my content strategy and start paring it back.

Here’s how you can do the same:

  1. Make a list of all the content you’re currently creating.

  2. Pick the one thing that feels the worst in your gut. What’s the thing you’re the least excited to put out there?

  3. Stop doing that thing.

  4. Try it for one month and re-assess.

  5. If you still feel crappy, take another thing away!

  6. Rinse and repeat.

I’m about to drop a #truthbomb on you…

If you are feeling overwhelmed with your own content creation, chances are your audience is feeling overwhelmed too.

I invite you to pare back. Cut the far. Look at your content strategy. Find that one thing that doesn't feel good and nix it.

Coco Chanel said, “Before you walk out of the house, look in the mirror and take one piece of jewelry off.” The same applies here. Before you send out your content, look in the mirror and take one thing away.

I challenge you to try it for just one month to see how it goes.
